Ermia is a feminine given name of Greek origin, derived from the Greek word "Ἐρμῆ" which means 'of Hermes.' It is often associated with the Greek goddess Ermis who was the protector of childbirth and young mothers. In some versions of myth, Ermis was also the attendant spirit of Persephone in the underworld. The name has been used in Greece for centuries and can be found among other variations such as Hermia and Ermea. It is not a common name outside of Greece but can still be found among individuals of Greek heritage or those with an interest in Greek mythology.
In 1940, there were five newborns named Ermia.
