Dreonna is of African origin, derived from the Yoruba name "Oreofun", which means "Wealthy, Rich". It gained popularity in the United States during the late 20th century and has since been used as a unique alternative to more traditional names like Donna or Andrea. Dreonna consists of three syllables with the stress falling on the second syllable: /dree-OHN-ə/. The name has also been spelled variations such as Dreona, Dreanah, and Drenna, though Dreonna is the most common form.
Dreonna appears to have had its most popular years between 1994 and 2004, with a noticeable spike in usage during the early 2000s. However, it seems to have fallen out of favor since then, as there were fewer than 10 births per year from 2007 onwards.
