Ulugbek, born Muhammad Taragay bin Abdurahman, was a prominent figure in Central Asia during the early 15th century. Hailing from Samarkand, he is most renowned for his significant contributions to astronomy and mathematics. Ulugbek, which translates to 'great ruler' or 'great sovereign,' was indeed a great patron of learning and sciences. His most notable work, the 'Zij-i-Sultani' (The Canon of the Great Sultan), was a comprehensive astronomical table that remained in use until well into the 17th century. Ulugbek's star catalog, which contained over 1000 stars, was one of his most important contributions to astronomy. His legacy continues to inspire generations of scientists and scholars worldwide.
