Plumeria, also known as frangipani, is a genus of about eight species of flowering plants native to Central America and the Caribbean. These plants are often called plumeria after the French botanist Charles Plumier who first described them in the 18th century. They belong to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) and are commonly known for their fragrant white or yellow flowers that emit a sweet, floral scent. Plumeria trees are popular ornamental plants due to their attractive foliage and beautiful blossoms. The most well-known species is the frangipani tree (Plumeria rubra), which has been widely cultivated around the world in tropical and subtropical regions.
