She is often depicted as a winged figure, draped in a black robe or cloak, symbolizing her role as the personification of nighttime darkness. Nyx is considered one of the first beings to emerge from Chaos, the void that existed before creation. She is said to have laid the golden eggs that hatched the gods of sleep, death, and dreams: Hypnos, Thanatos, and Morpheus respectively.
