All about the name KRONOS

Meaning, origin, history.

Kronos, derived from the Greek word 'chronos' meaning time, is an ancient deity of pre-Socratic philosophy and mythology. Often depicted as a giant serpent or dragon, Kronos was believed to have devoured his children to prevent them from overthrowing him, as he himself had done with his own father, Uranus. In Hesiod's Theogony, Kronos is castrated by his son Zeus with the help of Gaia, the earth goddess, after she advises her sons to lie in wait for their father. This act marked the beginning of the end of his reign and the establishment of Zeus' rule over the gods on Mount Olympus.
