Abigail, derived from the Hebrew name Abigail, means "my father is joyful" or "my father's joy." It gained popularity among early Christians due to its biblical association with Abigail, a wise and wealthy woman who protected her husband Nabal from King David in the Old Testament. The name Abigail was also borne by the first Prime Minister of Canada, Sir John A. Macdonald's wife.
"Abigail had a notable increase in popularity from the mid-1990s to around 2005, with over 30 births recorded annually during this period. However, it has since declined, with fewer than 10 births per year occurring consistently since 2016."
