Orest is of Greek origin, derived from the Greek word 'Oresetes'. It was borne by several figures in Greek mythology, most notably the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra in the tragedy "Electra" by Euripides. In medieval times, it was occasionally used as a given name, but today, Orest is quite rare outside of Greece. The name's meaning can be interpreted as 'mountain'.
"Orest experienced significant popularity from the mid-50s to early 60s with peaks of 19 births in 1952 and consistent double-digit numbers until 1959. After a decline, it saw renewed interest recently with 12 births in both 2022 and 2023."
