Jahmali is of African origin, specifically from West Africa's Mandinka ethnic group. It is derived from 'Jamal', which means 'beautiful'. The 'h' and additional letters are added to create a unique spelling. Jahmali gained prominence in the United States during the 1980s and 1990s, with notable bearers including American rapper Jahmal Gittens, known professionally as Mase.
"The name Jahmali was relatively popular around the turn of the millennium, with five babies named Jahmali each year in 1999 and 2000. There was a gap in its popularity for some time, but it resurged again from 2004 onwards, with seven births that year and eight in 2006.
