All about the name LOT

Meaning, origin, history.

Lot was born as one of the sons of Terah, along with his younger brother Haran and his nephew Abram (later known as Abraham). His wife was named Aishiteru, which means "she loved" in Hebrew. Together they had three children: Palti, Merari, and Chezron.

Lot is best known for accompanying his uncle Abram during their migration from Ur of the Chaldeans to Canaan. After settling in Canaan, they faced a famine that drove them south to Egypt due to its fertility. Upon returning to Canaan after Pharaoh's expulsion, Lot chose to settle in Sodom, despite Abram's concern about its moral decay.

When war broke out between the cities of the plain and the neighboring kings, Lot was taken captive along with his family. Abram led a daring rescue mission, successfully freeing Lot and retrieving all their possessions.

Lot eventually settled near Sodom again after the destruction of its neighboring cities. Despite his uncle's warnings about Sodom's impending doom, Lot remained there until he was miraculously rescued by angels on the day the city was destroyed.
