Elam is an ancient name of Semitic origin, meaning "hidden" or "veiled". It was the name given to one of the sons of Shem, according to the Book of Genesis in the Bible. Historically, Elam also refers to a region and kingdom located south of the Caspian Sea, between the Tigris and Karun rivers. The Elamites were known for their distinctive art and culture, which included intricate metalwork and relief sculptures.
