Jaquel is of African origin, meaning 'God is my strength'. It is derived from the Hebrew name Jacob, which is shared by many prominent figures throughout history, including the biblical patriarch and the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. The name gained popularity in the United States during the mid-20th century but remains relatively uncommon outside Africa and some African diaspora communities.
The name Jaquel experienced popularity in the mid-1990s with a peak of 28 births in 1998. However, it has since declined, with only 5 or 6 births per year from 2019 onwards.
